diy wedding

speaking of day dreams, check out this AMAZING diy wedding featured on 100 layer cake. it's so dreamy and sweet, probably one of the most lovely ones i've seen in a while.

day dreams {hidden pond}

ok so i have a lot of dream vacations but this one is definitely towards the top. i first read about the hidden pond resort in kennebunkport, maine a year ago in food & wine magazine. every since i've found myself drifting off into familiar day dreams about it.

my parents just went to maine for the weekend, and although they were staying in portland, their trip bought back my pining feelings for hidden pond. now you may ask why this resort is so amazing. well, buckle up, because what i'm about to tell you is surely going to jumpstart your day dreams as well.
the hidden pond is a luxury boutique resort featuring individually designed and decorated cottages. well that's great, but not the best part. the absolute BEST part of this resort is that it's situated on an organic farm and all of the herbs, vegetables and fruits are up for grabs to all guests. BOOM. i just blew your mind right? they provide you with a fully equipped kitchen, spices, basic ingredients etc. and you can go and pick whatever you like from the farm. amazing. then, if you don't feel like cooking, they have private chefs that will come do that for you, in your cottage! day dreaming yet?

on top of the bounty that you will surely pick from the farm, the resort delivers a bakery basket and hot coffee each morning to your cabin. i can almost hear you falling off your chair right now.
aside from the food, there's morning yoga, kayaking, canoeing, art and cooking classes, biking you name it. the town is also really cute and the cottages are situated right by the beach. what more could you want?
::sigh:: someday.

sunflowers and herbs

sunflowers are my favorite. my mother always planted them in the backyard and they would bloom at the end of the summer right around my birthday every year. i always knew when i had my own garden i would plant a bunch, unfortunately most of them died, but this one triumphantly bloomed last night.

we also have a lot of herbs, different mints, basils, and an abundant number of jalapenos. it's always really nice to be able to go out in the backyard and grab spices while cooking. they're so much better than the ones at krogerz.

next year we hope to have a bigger garden with pumpkins and squash, but i think this is a good start for now.

rainy day lineup

it has been raining on and off today with the occasional thunder and it appears that most of the east coast is having the same weather today. personally, i like the rain storm. i like how dark it gets and how the rain sounds on the roof, and let's be honest, i also really like the excuse to lounge around and watch movies.

so, in honor of this weather i put together a little lineup of things that could make anyone welcome the rain. enjoy!

sunday brunch

is there anything better? the answer, most assuredly, is no.

even if you have a million chores around the house, or homework, taking time out on a sunday morning and going out for french toast and coffee is a good idea. it's just so relaxing. going out for breakfast has always been one of my favorite things to do, and it's especially nice around this time of year because it gets slightly cooler (try 85 degrees) so we can sit outside and bring the buddies (dogs).
i always find it difficult to choose between sweet and savory at breakfast. usually i can coerce someone into sharing, but not today. i chose to go with the peach french toast with a vanilla bourbon custard at 700 drayton and it was delicious! i probably would have been happy just eating the custard to be honest, mmm.
my friends got the fried chicken and cobb salad. both were delicious as well.

side note: i don't know what it is but i have been on such a fried chicken and banana pudding kick for the last couple of weeks. this coming from a girl who didn't try either one until about her third year of living in the south, go figure.

it was a little cooler so the buddies were able to come. bruce seemed to enjoy himself too, although i think he enjoyed running around in the park after even more. :)

birds in flight

as i mentioned last week, my friend matt had an installation on display at the jepson center for the arts last night. his famous birds with his unique, signature pattern were hung from the ceiling of the front room. this was the first time the jepson had ever allowed anything to be hung from the ceiling so it was kind of a big deal.

notice the hats everyone was wearing in the bottom of the picture. matt had these made specially for the opening. it was such a fun night. the jepson is always so beautiful for events like this. with the full wall of windows, the lighting is wonderful, and it's kind of romantic the way the whole atmosphere changes as the sun goes down.
anyway, the birds looked amazing and they'll be on display until march, so go check them out if you're in savannah!
congratulations matt!

ps. isn't that dress on the right AMAZING?

heidi braids

aren't these braids awesome? perfect for fall i think. check out the tutorial here. and for all you skeptics out there who think you're inept when it comes to doing your own hair (me), don't worry. i just tried it and am successfully sitting at my computer with heidi braids, so clearly, anyone can do it.

rebz {postcards from paris}

this is my lovely friend reba. she is doing what everyone wishes they could do, but for whatever reason, can't. she's living in paris, working an au pair and slowly working her way into the fashion world. her days are filled with learning french, exploring that amazing city and becoming acquainted with french culture.

i visited her a couple of months ago and we spent the week practicing gluttony. eating cheeses, macaroons (thanks laduree), crepes and croque monsieurs; oh to be back in paris! perhaps next year, ::sigh::

through her series postcards from paris reba recounts all of her adventures and lovely findings in paris. i suggest you check it out. also check out her portfolio site designed by yours truly.

fall favorites

it may have been 90 degrees all weekend but for me it was definitely the kickoff to fall. my parents came to town with a couple of family friends and brought the beginning of fall in new york with them. apples, macintosh scented candles, mums, a new northface fleece, what more could a girl want? to top it off, we picked up a cinnamon broom from publix to put on the back of the door. now our house smells and looks like fall, just the way i like it.

sunday night jacob made chili and we drank pumpkin beer while watching football. it was the perfect end to a great fall weekend.

john derian for target

i'm so excited about john derian's new line of home wares for target i can barely contain myself. i walked into the targ yesterday to buy face wash and walked out with the that beautiful cake stand, i just couldn't help it.

now if you're anything like me, you've seen his glass serving trays and paper weights and you've tried to come up with the perfect excuse for spending enormous amounts of money on them. perhaps i'll have a dinner party? or maybe i'll set it out and display it on the mantle? again, if you're anything like me, you have a boyfriend behind you saying "put the lovely plate down and walk away." even though, if he could justify it, he would be first in line for the set of skeleton trays being sold at paris market right now.
so it goes without saying that i think derian's line at target is the perfect idea. totally affordable and lovely. so lovely in fact, that i plan on heading back for that cookie tray... and perhaps that phrenology plate... and maybe those mugs.

one of my favorite ways to spruce up a room is to add fresh cut flowers.

somehow it makes the room look cleaner and more fancy.

maggie austin

mother of pearl. these cakes by maggie austin in dc are so amazing. i know they've been featured all over the blog world in the last couple of weeks but i couldn't help it, i had to show them. they're just so amazing.
i'm definitely drawn to the cakes with a lot of texture, they almost look like ruffles. i don't know if i could eat them though, they're just too beautiful!

must watch

this show is so good. really. loosely based off the movie and starring lauren graham (gilmore girls), peter krause (six feet under) and egg, i mean ann from arrested development. i don't think i should have to write anymore to make you watch it, but i will anyway.

this show is so wonderful. yes, there's a few moments of cheese in each episode, but it's funny, smart and i seem to find myself crying at the end of each one. plus it's from the same people that did arrested development (ron howard hello).

it's on nbc at 10pm and the new season starts TONIGHT so please watch.! i promise you won't regret it.
