academy awards {thank god for fashion}

Seriously.

There was no other reason to watch this year's Oscars. I mean I liked the movies, and the people nominated, but there really wasn't any surprise. Everyone that was supposed to win won and the only mildly fun speeches were Melissa Leo's f*bomb and Colin Firth.

Not to mention, and I hate to even bring this up because I know you're all trying to forget, but SOMETHING need s to be said about the hosts. James Franco and Anne Hathaway were painful to watch. So boring right? First off, James was clearly high, and Anne... well I really do love her, but I thought she was on some kind of upper and James was definitely on a downer. WHAT a train wreck.

Thank god for the fashion. I mean some of the ladies really turned it out last night, these are some of my favorites. Aside from the ladies shown, I will say that Anne's only redeeming quality last night was her eight costume changes. Really beautiful, but not even they could save her, sorry Anne.

brewvival 2011

As I mentioned in an earlier post, this weekend was the annual Charleston Brewvival. May I begin by stating that this is equal to Christmas for Jacob. Seriously. He was exceptionally giddy when we woke up that morning, I don't think I've seen him that happy in a really long time, and rightfully so. It was a great day, filled with lovely friends and delicious beer. Not to mention that the weather was beautiful {70+ degrees, no big deal northerners}.

We got to try some really exceptional beers, but I definitely had a few stand out to me. Cigar City showed up to everyone's surprise and with them came some truly remarkable beers, one being their Caramel Graham Cracker ale. HOLY CRAP. This was absolutely amazing. I'm not quite as articulate as Jacob when it comes to beer, but I will say that I enjoyed it. The other one that stood out to me was the Tart Lychee from New Belgium. Sour beers can be a hard sell, but once you have one it's hard to get them out of your mind.

Anyway, it was a wonderful day. It helped that it was capped off with a trip to Pearlz, a dozen oysters, more beer and oyster shooters. Can't wait until next year!

excuse my mess

My apologies for the lack of posts this week. My parents have been in town so I haven't been at the house much. I may need a few days to recoup. This weekend will also be hectic as we will be traveling to Charleston for Brewvival{!}. However, I PROMISE to have more posts next week, beginning with details from the festival.

In the meantime you should check out this blog {tomboy style}, which is also where this photo of the flawless Audrey Tautou was found.

soft serve rules

Ok, I know I've professed my love and devotion for Debbie Carlos and her amazing large format photos many times before, but this one holds a special place in my heart. Soft serve ice cream is my faaaaaav, especially the twist. Growing up in Upstate NY one of the best things about summer was that all the soft serve places would open up. From May until September I would frequent such places as On the Farm, Coney Island Express and Kerver Kream. I'm not sure if these types of 50's ice cream summer places are a northern thing, but I haven't been able to find any places like that down here, which depresses me to no end {and if you even utter the worlds Dairy Queen to me, we will no longer be friends}.

Anyway, when I saw this photo on Debbie's site I almost fell out of my chair. What could be more fitting for me? I'm not sure if it would make me really happy to have around or slightly sad that I'm not shoving my face with an ice cream twist {with mint-chocolate sprinkles, duh}.

have a beautiful weekend!

My parents are in town for the week and I'm so happy the weather is cooperating for their visit. It's supposed to be in the 70's all week so I expect frequent park/beach visits, frozen yogurt and copious doses of vitamin d. I hope yours is beautiful as well!

back to the future

Isn't this a great idea? Irina Werning is a photographer in Buenos Aires who's 2010 project was photographing people recreating childhood pictures. So awesome!

beach days

Ah. Today it's 80 here in Savannah {don't be jealous} and I'm wishing I could go to the beach. Unfortunately cleaning and work are putting a damper on my day, but I'm happy the warm weather is here anyway. So happy in fact, that I couldn't resist putting together a few things I would like to take to the beach today, aside from myself of course.

blog envy

It's an ugly thing, I'm not proud of myself. I clicked on this new blog because I really liked the name {cupcakes and cashmere}, 40 minutes later I had scrolled through 15 pages of lovely posts, and contracted a serious case of blog envy.

So today I decided to put my envy behind me and check out the blog again, only to find that she had been featured on apartment therapy with pictures of her newly decorated apartment. WOW. Seriously. Look at that closet! Anyway, her blog really is amazing and you should check it out, but be prepared to feel a little green.

oscar bingo

I'll be the first to admit that I totally get sucked into hollywood award shows. It's silly, I know. Watching a bunch of rich, beautiful people pat each other on the back for 2 months straight, but I can't help it. I get caught up in all the glitz and glamour, it could just be my love for Fashion Police the next day, but oh well. Anyway, when I saw this downloadable game for the big night I instantly started thinking of who might care enough about the show to come play it with me. I may have to force Jacob into playing and find a couple of other ladies to coerce their man friends to do the same.

BLHDN

Be still my heart.

Anthropologie has come out with a bridal line. I KNOW. The looks are beautiful, very much in the spirit of the store, and incredibly detailed. Everything is amazing, but these were some of my favorites.

happy valentine's day!

have a lovey dovey weekend!

Too much pink today? Didn't think so.

pretty in pink

I've been obsessed with all things pink, nude and blush lately and with Valentine's Day coming up, my obsession is only increasing. I think it may also have to do with my craving for Spring. Anyway, I've put some ideas together that will make you feel girly and lovely in time for V-day.

blank walls

We finally painted our bedroom a grey/blue color a few weeks ago {I only bought the paint for it 6 months ago, no big deal}. Anyway, now that's it's painted, I'm itching to get something hung on the walls. Even though we have a stack of posters and art prints that need to go up {we're lacking in the frame department at the moment} I keep dreaming about these tassels from Confetti System. The metallic ones would go so nicely with the color and we need something to liven up that space a little bit. It's so easy to focus on the rooms that guests would see and forget about other spaces, but I suppose a bedroom is pretty important and might need love too...starting with these.

an education

My dear readers, have you seen this movie? If you haven't I highly suggest you get around to doing so. It's lovely. Carrie Mulligan is wonderful in it, and looking at Dominic Cooper isn't too bad either. It's easy to identify with a young girl's feeling of wanting more for her life, constantly daydreaming of Paris and love. It's funny how the film sort of sweeps you off your feet, causing you to forget that she's sixteen and he's in his thirties. Also, the fashion, music and hair styles are amazing.

mud australia

Sigh.

I have been a fan of Mud Australia for years now, ever since i spotted some of their bowls in a small boutique in the Village. These porcelain pieces are all handmade. The inside is glazed and smooth while the outside is sanded and left a little rough. I just love their clean lines and classic look, and I think their color selection is awesome. I really want to buy a bunch and mix match the colors, however every time I bring this up to Jacob he looks at me like I'm crazy. Then I calmly promise to wait and put it on our registry in 10 years, which usually makes him breath a sigh of relief.

cards for your valentine

With Valentines Day only a week away, it's time to start thinking about what sweet card you're going to give your chosen Valentine. I'm thinking maybe the bacon one...

happy {rainy} monday

It's another rainy day here in Savannah {clearly yesterday's sunny 75 was just a tease}, on top of which it's Monday AND I have to do my taxes today. Blerg. At least yesterday was an exceptional day. Between the massive amounts of food and beer {homemade chicken wings and chili that I forgot to photograph}, the beautiful weather and a successful outcome to the super bowl, I was a very happy lady.

I would, however, like to take a moment to say that the half-time show was quite possibly the worst thing I have seen in a long time. WHY would they allow that to happen? Fergie singing a Guns N' Roses song? REALLY? Horrible.

Anyway, happy monday to all of you out there, I hope you had a truly fantastic weekend!

Happy Birthday Julianne!

My middle sister is 21 today and I am horrified. Happy Birthday lady and please, be safe JJ!

happy super bowl weekend!

Since my Jets are out {beaten by those Pittsburgh turds} I have to root for someone else in this Super Bowl. I'm going with Green Bay, mainly because I really hate the Steelers and Rothlisberger, but also because I do like that Aaron Rogers. I love the Super Bowl though, any excuse to eat wings, chili or these all at once is a good thing. Hopefully the commercials are good this year, but if not there's always Glee to look forward to after the game!

operation hot dolls

I almost fell out of my chair with excitement when I spotted these on Andra's blog today. Arrested Development is one of my all time favorite shows and never should have gone off the air.

Kyle Hilton created these amazing paper dolls as a distraction from a freelance project he was working on. Yes, these seem much more fun. My personal favorite is Tobias Funke, although I'm not sure which one of him I like more. The one with Mrs. Featherbottom or his Blue Man Group, both characters are equally amazing.

Anyway, I want these. I also want this show back. I'm not sure if the movie will ever happen, but I wish it would, and fast.

P.S. For any of you out there that have not watched this amazing show, you're really missing out. I suggest you get on Hulu IMMEDIATELY and start catching up.

for the motivated baker

I'm not sure if I would have the patience to bake this cake, I suppose it would depend on what mood I was in. However, some of you out there might just be motivated enough to take a crack at it. It looks so pretty and sweet, not to mention delicious.
