layer up

It's getting cold here in Savannah, and by cold I mean about 60. For us that justifies scarves and light-weight jackets, and it's got me thinking a lot about layering. Our lovely friends Kelsey & Erik were married in August and it was truly the most wonderful wedding I have ever been to. Their wedding is been featured on Glamour and Grace today, so check it out!

perfect paper flowers

Ok, when i saw this wedding a few weeks ago, I nearly DIED over the paper flowers. They're amazing, AND then I found out that the bride's mother made all of them. I was totally jealous of her crafting skillz. So, imagine my excitement when I saw that 100 layer cake added a tutorial of how to make these rad flowers. I believe a crafting party is in my future.

food porn {truffle salt}

I love truffles. I will order anything that has the word truffle in it, no joke. It can completely change my mind about what to order. "Oh I don't want steak tonight. Wait, it's coming with truffle mashed potatoes? Count me in." This has happened on occasion. I make no excuse for my behavior because it's just that good.

Jacob shares my infatuation with the curious fungus. While browsing in Dean & Deluca a couple of Christmases ago I stumbled across this little beauty: TRUFFLE SALT. I felt that our pantry had clearly been lacking due to the absence of this magical salt, so i swiped one up as a gift to jacob {and myself}. Best purchase ever. Sprinkle some on steak, potatoes, pretty much anything and you'll be happy, I promise.

pumpkin carving

These are not detailed or complicated pumpkins, we are aware. I had ideas of grandeur after seeing Martha's pumpkins, but in the end I realized it just wasn't going to happen. First of all the Martha templates I printed were just too small for the pumpkins we bought, and secondly, we got a little lazy. We thought it was important that we do something for the little trick or treaters {which, by the way, did not come on sunday night, thanks a lot chatham county for switching Halloween to Saturday}.

Anyway we free handed these just have something. OH, and by we I mean Jacob. I facilitated. I am not really strong enough to cut through a pumpkin while creating straight lines, and I'm a little clumsy so I was afraid of slicing my hand. I created the basic outline and he went in a cut the pumpkin. Oh well, at least we have something, and they look very nice on our doorstep even if they're perhaps a little basic.

shalom ya'll

Yesterday was a very special day indeed. Not only was it Halloween, but it was also the day of Savannah's annual Jewish Food Festival aptly named "Shalom Ya'll." How awesome is that name? Ridiculous.

We look forward to this day every year. Blintzes, chopped liver, tongue sandwiches, bagels, EGG CREAMS, latkes, matzo ball soup, I could go on. Every year I try to get there in time for the fresh Cholla and every year I fail miserably, just as I did this year. It was still a very enjoyable day though, the weather was perfect and the food was delicious. I look forward to the egg creams every year. I know that's it's something really simple and not as big of a deal as say latkes, but they remind me of home, and it's chocolate so how could I not look forward to it?

Ah, another Shalom Ya'll over... can't wait for next year!
