events around town

{poster by Jared Morgan}

{poster by samantha huba, yes, me}

Just wanted to get the word our on some events happening around Savannah at the moment. Bug, by Tracy Letts, is being performed at the Bay Street Theater, this weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. Jacob and I went last week, and really enjoyed it. It's a bit graphic, so if you get grossed out by blood {as I do} you may want to sit in the back row. Our two very good friends are directing and acting in it, so GO.

Also, July 3rd, The Distillery will be having a "Cheers to Independence" night with Samuel Adams beer on tap and reps on hand. Too often people {including myself} complain about nothing happening in Savannah, well here's some stuff, so get out of the house.

wedding wednesdays {backdrops}

When we first started planning our wedding, the first thing that popped into my head was "backdrop." Why? I'm not sure, perhaps photos like these with dreamy, romantic backdrops had something to do with it. I know what our's is going to be, and i couldn't be more excited. My heart melts when I think of it.

kelsey garrity-riley downton abbey scarf

Yay! for friends doing great things! I've featured Kelsey's Downton Abbey print on here before and now it's a beautiful scarf on Fancy French Cologne! It's also been getting a lot of love in the blog world, and I couldn't be happier for her. Her work is so charming and lovely, I'm thrilled it's being shared with so many people.

I need this scarf immediately {it's on backorder!} if for no other reason than to hold me over until Downton Abbey comes back in September!

sunday sweets {blueberry scones}

I know I've been slacking a little bit on my "sunday sweets" lately, but I've been trying keep desserts out of the house {i have to fit in a dress soon}. However, our Farm Box keeps sending us blueberries, and we've been trying to make lots of cocktails out of them but I needed something that would take care of the majority. These were the perfect solution.

Rose Bakery to the rescue again. Scones have always been one my favorite "on the go" breakfasts, but it's important that they the sugar is balances, never good to get an overly sweet scone. These are actually kind of healthy for you, sort of. They really don't use that much sugar, and I put a pretty generous amount of wheat germ in them.

Try making these for the perfect breakfast or tea party!

Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups flour
{about} a handful of wheat germ
2 heaping tablespoons baking powder
2 heaping tablespoons superfine sugar
1 teaspoon salt
grated zest of one lemon or orange
1/2 cup butter
2 handfuls blueberries
2 eggs
1 1/4 milk
1 tablespoon light brown sugar

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and grease a baking tray.
2. Sift the plain flour into a bowl, add the wheatgerm, sugar, and baking powder. Cut the butter into cubes and add to the mixture. Mix, using your hands, until the mixture resembles fresh breadcrumbs.
3. Mix in your zest. Add blueberries and mix well, but carefully.
4. Beat one egg in a measuring cup, then add enough milk to reach 1 1/4 cup. Make a well in the middle of your dry mixture, and pour the milk and egg in. Using a fork, work the wet ingredients into the dry. Finish by hand but without overworking the mixture. Just lightly bring everything together in a firm but soft dough. If the dough is too dry add milk, if too wet, add flour. It should not be sticky at all.
5. On a lightly floured surface, pat or roll dough into a solid shape about 1 1/4 inches thick.
6. Using a 2 inch cutter, cut the dough into rounds and place them on the greased backing pan. Beat the remaining egg and use as a glaze over the scones. Sprinkle with brown sugar.
7. Bake about 15-20 minutes until golden.

wedding wednesdays {vows}

I have a tendency to get carried away {some may call it obsessed...ahem Jacob} with details. It's very easy to do this with a wedding. The small things {shoes, veil, glasses, jewelry, makeup, hair, etc} seem to be stressing me out far more than any of the big ticket items did. I understand how easy it is to focus on these types of things and forget about what's really important, the actually wedding.

So lately Jacob and I have been discussing the vows, which is a daunting and scary thing. Should we write our own, or not? It's very overwhelming to recite your feelings in front of a crowd of people, even if they're close friends and family, especially when you don't like public speaking anyway. I am one of these people. I hate talking to a crowd, I usually make a joke or say something silly to make myself a little more comfortable. I'm also not very good at being mushy or romantic, so that might be a little difficult for me. However, everyone I've spoken to felt that writing their own vows was definitely worth it in the end, and Jacob informed me last night, that he's already figured out pretty much what he's going to say. So ... you know... no pressure or anything.

Also, today marks four months until the wedding! I say this with excitement and horror, it feels like we just got engaged. I've been working on the wedding for 8 months and I feel like I have so much still to do. Where did all the time go?

daydreams {kitchen makeover}

Lately I've been obsessed with the idea of change. There's a lot of it happening, but maybe not quite enough. Sometimes there's things I can't quite control, and if I can't control them, I certainly can't change them. However, there are a few things within my control, like redecorating our house, which {along with change... and everything neon} is another one of my obsessions as of late.

Our bedroom and kitchen are the two problem areas for me. We actually decorated the kitchen already, Jacob thought we were done. But lately I've been hating the color, and, despite his complete disdain for painting, Jacob has actually admitted to hating it as well. It's mustard, which I actually love, but it's casting a weird light on everything we cook, and sometimes I fell like it's just a little too... I don't know, loud? cheery? encroaching?

Perhaps a nice crisp white would work, with a splash of colorful backsplash, and maybe some new chairs for our dining room table would be nice. Oh! and new flooring... and maybe a window... and perhaps some new cabinets... and maybe {while we're at it} some new countertops.

I don't know these are just some thoughts. Jacob better get out his tools.

happy weekend.

Honestly, aside from our lovely trip to Maryland, I've had a rough couple of weeks. I think I need a much longer vacation, asap. Since that's not happening anytime soon, I may just have to make time to get out to the beach. Hopefully this weekend.

Things to distract me from picking up and moving away from Savannah:
2. How to deal with your significant other's annoying habits.
3. Wes Anderson Bingo? YES PLEASE!
4. Remember when I shared those Arrested Development paper dolls? Well, now there's a Girls set. I KNOW. {also a downton abbey one for all the ladies out there}
5. It's the Mad Men finale already? Ugh.

stately sandwiches

Kelly Pratt is working on "Stately Sandwiches" for all 50 states. I love projects like this. Partly because I've become obsessed with all things state or food related, but also because they always make for interesting photographs. I'm also impressed by anyone's motivation to commit to a long term project. It's fun to look at these and really see each state represented, some have more quintessential sandwiches than others {new york, pennsylvania} but each one has something that makes you think "oh yeah! that's totally a {blank} thing!"

weekend.

I've been a bad blogger lately, but I've had a lot going on. I will try to be better.

Jacob and I are going up to Maryland together this weekend for his sister's high school graduation {go becky!} and I'm seriously looking forward to getting out of Savannah. Even more so, I'm looking forward to massive amount Maryland crabs I plan on consuming.

So happy weekend to everyone, hopefully it's filled with adventure.

For your viewing pleasure:
1. Magazine rack DIY I think I might use.
2. I considered buying some Turkish bath towels a while ago, and after seeing these, I think it's a must.
3. Imagine sipping fancy tea from these.
